Since I have some time to kill...

...I figured I'd blog for a bit.

I called in the 3100 today because it was giving me shit for quality. I have a file to print that the customer is very picky about quality. The machine is printing darker at the back of the machine than at the front. Just to be sure, I digitally rotated the file 180°, and sure enough, it's the machine, not the file. So I called it in. The tech came out, spent 45 minutes or so dicking with it, and couldn't get it to reproduce it with any other original or file other than the one that was giving me problems, so he tried to tell me it was the file. I explained to him that it can't be the file, if it was, rotating it would cause the darkness to rotate with it. Then I found a file that had a light coverage similar to the file I was printing, and it did the same thing. Then, while we were looking at the files, I started to look at his CMYK test pages and noticed that the Cyan, Yellow, and Black pages were darker at one end than at the other. The tech was cool enough to thank me for helping him find the problem. I thanked him for sticking around to try to find the problem, instead of just saying, "I can't reproduce it, the problem's with the file," and bailing on me. I need to get ahold of his supervisor and praise him. Now all we need is a new transfer belt installed tomorrow, and we'll be back to normal. Except we're buried under an avalance of color work. I have 6 binders which are either all or mostly color due out in the next week or so. Plus that file that was due the 10th (but that I didn't get the file and order until late on the 10th).

Well, off to Pizza Night at the Wilson!
