Happy New Year.

May this one be better than the last.

So the wife and I went out last night. This is the first NYE since we've been together that we didn't go to Simply Fondue. We had been going there because they have a nice NYE meal, with free champagne (cheap stuff). Well, they've been increasing the price bit by bit over the years, and we decided it wasn't worth it any more. Besides, now that we live downtown, we figured there would be a shindig near home that we could walk to, and avoid the risks of driving. Since all the things going on downtown were either more expensive than Simply Fondue, or were at dance clubs (we like to eat), we ended up hitting a couple of parties given by friends.

First, we went to Good Records for the Pilotdrift instore. It's not like we're fans of Pilotdrift (we've actually never heard them, other than at the instore), we just wanted free food & beer. So we started getting our drink on early, 5:30 pm, to be precise. We each had 2 cups of Cheap American Light Lager, and I had 4 hot dogs, two with buns, two without. We did go into the store (the food/beer was outside) after Pilotdrift played, to try to pick up the Scissor Sisters CD, but they were sold out of it.

From there we went to Target to get a hostgift for the final party of the night. We've been to multiple parties at this friend's house, and he never has a drink shaker. While I tend to stick to beer, my wife likes mixed drinks, and was tired of using two Sporting Event Plastic Cups for mixing drinks, so we picked up a nice Drink Mixer/Wine Cooler set for him. Since we both were hungry, and I've learned my lesson about not eating the day of NYE, we went to Whataburger and had "dinner."

After getting our fill of grease and fat, we drove down to the loft building we used to live in, the American Beauty Mill, to the Ghetto NYE party being thrown by Nathan, manager of both that building, and the one we currently live in. It was kinda funny. About 20 gay men, all dressed like extras from Malibu's Most Wanted. But again, free beer and I-Can't-Feel-My-Face Punch. We got there kinda early, so we helped them set up last minute decorations. By 10:30 I'd had 2 bottles of Shiner Bock, so we decided to head out to Plano, and our last party of the night.

We drove on up to the party, and had a hell of a time finding parking. You see, it was being hosted by 3 different people, all of whom originally wanted to have their own parties, but since they share friends, they figured they'd have better turn out if they combined them. There was a keg of Shiner Bock in the back yard, along with assorted Cheap American Light Lagers, and a fully stocked bar. I had 2 cups of Shiner, a Miller Lite, and two Dos Equis (is that redundant?). About 1am, someone handed me a plastic cup of cheap champagne, and that turned me off to drinking the rest of the night, so I switched to Dr Pepper. I got to show my Prince Albert to two gay men, and my wife got a good buzz.

We finally left around 2:30 or so, and made the long-ass drive back home. Since we were both hungry, we decided to hit the McDonald's in downtown that's open 24 hours. We had to avoid the gang fight at one intersection, and the aftermaths of two accidents along the way. Then we had to sit in the drive-thru behind a Chevy Tahoe full of drunk college kids. But we made it. After we had our Big Macs and soft drinks, we went to bed around 4am.

Woke up around noon, feeling thirsty as a mo-facker. As soon as we fully wake up, we'll get something to eat, and drink a gallon of V8.

Comments:
Holy crap, I love your description of Nathan's party. I totally would have loved it. Also... learned things about you I didn't know.
