12.20.2004

I don't like the look of my blog.

I'd love to change it. I even have an idea of how I'd like it to look. I just need to learn a bit more about CSS to get it to do what I want it to do. I have a hard enough time getting this one to look this way. I need to have about a week and a half off to just do nothing but read and work on the computer (and probably play xbox). In the greater scheme of things I realize it really doesn't matter what the hell this thing looks like, but I still want to change it. It's too bland.

In other news, work is about as dead as it can get. I've sent two files to print a total of 5 times for proof purposes. One, of which I printed 3 different versions, has been cancelled because the print quality sucked big donkey. They'll probably send another one down tomorrow. The other is off awaiting approval from the customer. We're still waiting to hear if we get the contract or not, so my job is still up in the air. It sucks almost as bad as being unemployed did. No, wait, it sucks more. I put a lot of effort into getting this job in particular, so that I'd be able to walk to work, so that we'd be able to afford to live where we do. Now it turns out that I might not be able to work here because one of the companies I used to work for submitted a lower bid than the company I currently work for.

I just need to win the lottery or something. Of course, to win, you have to play.

Cynthia and I "exchanged" xmas presents this past weekend. She got me
Burnout 3: Takedown for Xbox, and an Acqua Di Gio gift set. "I" got her an Amarige gift set and a Givenchy sampler set. Her mom sent us a package that Cynthia will be picking up at the Post Office today. It's supposed to contain the rest of our gifts from her (she already gave us a bra for the beetle). I really like Burnout 3. I enjoyed Burnout 2, but always wished that there was a way to "win" a bus or semi to use in the Crash Mode. Well, guess what... in Burnout 3 you can. They not only have one semi, but two. And you can earn a dump truck, firetruck, and an RV. Another cool thing about it is that I played it quite a bit this weekend, and I haven't woken up with a trigger finger attack, yet. I might get one this weekend, but I hope not. Maybe if I keep my playtime down to an hour or two at a time, it might not come back.

I want to get back on my bike. I'm tired of being out of shape and listless. That's the problem: I want to ride, but I have no energy to ride, but if I were to ride, I'd have energy to ride. Maybe I'll dig out those rollers and set them up by the window so I can ride and look out at traffic and still be out of the way. I'd want to take it easy at first, of course, because my blood pressure has been rather high, and I'd hate to have a heart attack. I should probably make an appointment to see my doctor and discuss it with him. Whenever I've gone in, his nurse has commented on my bp, as has he, but they didn't seem to be all that concerned about it. They'd usually say something to the effect of "140/70, that's kinda high" but nothing else. Whenever I've been in a pharmacy or grocery store that has one of those bp stations, I sit down and test it, and it's always in that 140/70 range. Of course, I've just been walking around and/or pushing a cart of groceries, so that might raise it up a bit, but I don't think it should be that high.

I just took an
online typing test and got 66wpm. I'm watching my fingers move across the keyboard as I type this, and it's kinda cool. It doesn't look like it looks in the movies when people are shown typing (as one guy this weekend discribed it -- "qwerty qwerty qwerty"). I've noticed that oftentimes my hands take turns typing, depending on what is being typed. I know that's a by-product of the QWERTY keyboard, that the most commonly used letters are the easiest to access, but it's still kinda interesting to see first one hand and then the other type. Sometimes they take turns every other letter.

Damn, reading through this post I get the impression that I'm stoned. I'm not, though. I'm not even drunk (I can't type this well when I've been drinking). I'm just bored off my ass. I always feel guilty when I'm at work and there is nothing to do, so I sit here and surf the internets and read the
paper and do the crossword puzzle (Reading the paper and doing the crossword takes up about 10 minutes, total, of my day, so that doesn't make me feel too guilty).

About the paper: Quick's motto is Your News.... It should be Bringing you Yesterday's Breaking News, Today! I even saw a story in today's issue that I read online last Tuesday or Wednesday. Their whole purpose for being is to give people the news in a physical format that's easy to deal with. I currently have two issues here, last Friday's and today's. Friday's was 36 pages, today's is 28. Including classified ads. And other advertisements. Not counting classifieds, there are 27 ads in today's issue, 46 in Friday's. Now, I understand that they have to make money somehow, as it is a free paper, that's not my point. When you add in the 3-4 pages of classifieds, that doesn't leave that much space for hard-hitting journalism. So it's not that I read fast (I do read fairly fast, although not as fast as some), it's that there's not all that much to read in it.

I've got lots of other post ideas, some of which are "
meme's" that I'm ganking from other blogs. I'll work on them as time permits and get them up.
