Mandy & Victor

Cynthia and I drove up to Arkansas this weekend to attend the wedding of our friends, Mandy & Victor.

We arrived at the church just a little late, because Mapquest seems to think we drive a go-cart, and Eureka Springs has the bad habit of not putting street signs at the intersection, so we missed a turn or 3. We got to see them exchange vows, an witnessed a beautiful ceremony. In & out in about an hour, not bad for a Catholic ceremony.

We got lost on the way to the reception (see above not about Eureka Springs street signs), and then had a bitch of a time finding parking. We ended up parking in the hotel lot, which is 3 or 4 blocks from the hotel, and about 2500 feet of elevation below the hotel. Ok, maybe it was only 600 feet of elevation, but I felt like I'd be better off riding a mountain goat then a car on those streets.

The hotel was incredible. It had just turned 100 years old, so it had all the character one would imagine a 100-year old building would have. The reception was nice, lots of good food, and lots of Shiner on tap. We sat at a table in the back corner with one of Mandy's highschool friends and her husband.

I got a picture of the cake cutting:

and of them feeding each other cake:

I was very glad to see they actually fed each other, and didn't smear it all over each other's faces. To me, smearing it, or mashing it, shows a lack of respect for each other.

We hung out after the reception with Victor & Mandy & their friends. We ended up going to a little bar, Chelsea's, to grab some food. Our waitress looked just like Cynthia's best friend, Penny:

sorry about the crappy image quality, it was dark

We ended up heading back home around 11:30pm. In the rain. After drinking half the day. On narrow, twisty roads with shear drop-offs. It's a 2+ hour drive. I stopped and got a Mtn Dew AMP on the way to keep awake. I ended up staying up 'til 4 or 4:30am, chatting with Cynthia's mom.

After a night morning of fitfull sleep, I got up at noon. After chatting more with Sally, and having a late lunch, we headed back to Dallas, arriving just in time to watch Gray's Anatomy.
