So Xerox installed our Doc 240 Tuesday, and their IT person came out and set up our computer with Command Workstation to control the printer functions, and to install the printer drivers. Since she asked me what software we printed from, I asked her about the PPD files for PageMaker. She couldn't find them on the Xerox website, and said she'd look into it. Today she came back to give us training on the Densitometer (a device used to determine exactly how stupid the customer is). I asked her about the PPD, and she looked, and again found nothing. I had noticed on Tuesday, and pointed it out at that time, that there were two .ppd files in the folder containing the printer drivers. I suggested copying them to the appropriate PageMaker folder to see if they'd work. She didn't seem too keen on the idea, so I did it, figuring that the worst that would happen is it wouldn't work, and I'd have to delete them. Well, I was right, they were the correct PPDs for PageMaker. She sat back and shook her head and said that what I had just done was undocumented.

Therefore, monogodo > Xerox.

Oh, and the DC 240 is still kicking ass and taking names. The quality is phenomenal, and the speed is incredible.

Xerox doesn't know a lot of stuff. I've actually had to point out a lot of bugs to them. The documentation sucks, too. Someone did write that ppd, but it probably made it nowhere near the people that write the install docs.

Pagemaker? Really? People still use that? Please tell me you at least get Adobe Pagemaker, and not Aldus...
 
Well, at home I have both PM7 and InDesign 2. At work we have PM 6.5, and yes, it's Adobe, not Aldus, we don't use Macs.

About the only thing I use it for at work is creating tabs for printing on the 8500. The Nameless Merchant has their own "Creative Services" department that creates 90% of the jobs we produce digitally. They either use Quark Xpress 6 or InDesign CS. The other 10% of work we get is mostly Excel, with a little bit of Word and PowerPoint thrown in just to irritate us.
 
I'm afraid that Xerox customers will be experiencing more situations where the people doing the installs won't know what they are doing. Xerox on 10/11 got rid of many of their experienced Analysts that interface with the customers. Xerox make a good product, but they don't seem to understand customer service.
