The "Interview" went well.
It turns out it wasn't really an interview. The manager told me the position is mine if I want it. They'll even hold it for me for the 2 months that I'll still be at the copy center.
It's a CAD position. Basically I'll be outputting CAD drawings to a plotter, and sending drawings to large format printers. I'll be receiving files via email, ftp, and online storage, as well as printing from archives. I'll be interacting with customers over the phone, and also in person. As needed, I'll be supporting the front counter staff. I'll also be trained on the new Xerox iGen3 that they just got. I might also finagle some training on the DocuTech. He forsees me stepping up into a management position at some point. He said I'd also be getting a pay raise, but he doesn't know how much it'll be.
The main reason we met was so that he could tell me, in person, that if the new company makes an offer to me, I should do what's best for me. If I do jump ship and take a potential offer, and it doesn't work out, he'll hire me back, if he has an opening.
The location isn't as close as my current job, but it's not bad. My current job is literally across the street. It takes me 5 minutes to walk to work. My new job is just over a mile up the road. There's a bus stop outside my loft, and a bus route that will drop me off across the street from work. It will take me less than 10 minutes on the bus to get to work. Hell, if the weather is nice, I could walk it in 20 minutes. I may even ride the bus to work, then walk home.
The hours will be different, too. Currently I work 9am - 6pm. The new position will be either 7:30am - 4:30pm or 8am - 5 pm. It'll be nice getting home before 5:30pm. I think I could even handle the earlier schedule.
Thanks for all the support.

*applause*
I'd like a large format pen plotter. It'd be nice to have a vinyl blade kit for it too.. but, you know, if I *REALLY* wanted such things, I'd have found a way to get them.
I could take a dye sub though.

hereNT: I can't wait to learn more about it. And I have no doubt I'll be hitting you up for tips at some point.
Max Omni: I think you'd have to change your shorts if you had access to all the equipment in the store I'm moving to. Keep on the lookout for a future post about it.
