Work attitude
My attitude towards work keeps changing, sometimes multiple times a day.
Some mornings I wake up and don't want to go to work (who doesn't, right?). But I think about what needs to be done, and decide to head on in. When I'm at work, I enjoy it (for the most part).
The changes that will be happening at work are affecting me, too.
Sometimes I can't wait to get out of the cave that is the Copy Center at the Nameless Merchant. It'll be nice to work around more than just 2 other people every day. And to have contact with a wide variety of people every day. It will also be nice to be able to see outside while working. I also am looking forward to learning new skills. Last Saturday I rode my Catamount up to the store, to see how long it would take. It took me 8 minutes from the garage entrance to the front of the store. It'll be nice to get exercise on my way to/from work, I'll actually get healthier. I kinda miss commuting by bike. I used to ride 12 miles each way to work back when my BMW died. I was in great shape by the end of summer. I'd like to do that again, get in shape, not ride 12 miles each way to work.
Other times I am anxious about the change. I'll miss working across the street from home. I'll miss walking home for lunch every day. I've also heard horror stories about some of the staff of the store I'm going to, so I'm a bit apprehensive about how they'll treat me. My boss will be changing, too. Obviously, my supervisor will change, but the manager above them is changing, too. Brenda kinda watched out for me, now she won't be in the chain of command hierarchy above me anymore. One good thing, though -- her boss (the District Manager) is also my new manager's boss, and he (the DM) likes me.
I was supposed to be spending quite a bit of time at the new location, learning my new job, before the change actually occurs. It's supposed to be slow here at the Nameless Merchant during November & December. It's not. We're extremely busy. My supervisor being out sick for 3 days last week didn't help, either. It's like they know we have a new machine that is fast, so we get more done in less time than before. They may be trying to get everything out of the way now, so that the transistion to the Other Guy will go smoothly. In any event, I haven't been able to leave here to go there for training at all. I hope I can in the next couple of weeks, otherwise it'll be a little rough when I finally do start working there permanently. Even if I don't get any training, I'm sure I'll pick it up quickly. I've done most of what they need me to do, just not as in-depth as I'll be doing it. I'm sure the software interface is different, too, but that's no big deal. I'm a smart guy, I can figure it out. Hell, if Moron Boy was able to do it, surely I can do it.
Well, off to home.
