Computer issues

If you've been reading this for a while, you might already know that I've been experiencing some computer issues for a while. When I try to 'upgrade' to Windows XP Service Pack 2 (from SP1), it crashes my computer. And whenever I reboot, I get a Windows Warning window that says that the system has recovered from a serious error, even though it hasn't. And when I try to connect via FTP to my webserver, I am most likely not able to. It might have something to do with the fact that I have 2 user profiles on it, one for me and one for my wife. That's when the FTP issues started, when I added her profile.

So I've decided to do two things about it.
  1. Double my RAM to 512MB.
  2. Install a new, larger HD and install XP (SP2) on it and use my current HD as a secondary drive.
Last week Friday I found a Samsung 80 Gig HD for $62.99 (free shipping), and 256 Megs of RAM for $31.99 (plus $4.99 shipping). The HD arrived tonight. The RAM arrives tomorrow.

Anyway, the whole point here is that I'm going to be doing computer maintanance over the next few days, so my internet presence will be hit & miss.

Comments:
meh- my roomies' dell latitude 1100 dies while getting a clean XP install- half way through- and now I am DOOMED as it doesn't have a floppy drive, I don't have a floppy drive, ect...
I made a bootable CD- no go- I made a DOS cd- no go- I am next going to try to uninstall the HDD from the BIOS, try a CD again- BUT IF ANYONE HAS AN FTP leading a BOOTABLE USB (32MB)image that doesn't require me to f*** around for hours I will personally write the new POPE on your behalf...

You and me- we gotta get a Mac...
