Turnaround Times

Thursday at work, around 3:15pm, a couple of customers came in with a job. Their job ticket said it had 100+ pages and they wanted 280 single-sided black & white copies, three hole drilled. They wanted to know if we could shrink-wrap them in groups so they could just slap a lable on it and send it to the individual stores. I said sure, we could do that, then asked them when they needed it. They kinda hemmed and hawed and said as soon as possible. I looked at it, thought about it, and said I could have it for them late Friday afternoon. They said that was fine and left.

I had to finish up a rush job, so I wasn't able to start it until 4pm. After the proof was run, I found that it was 160 pages. Based on the speed of the copier, it was going to take 8-10 hours to complete.

When my supervisor got back from his break, he looked it over and called the customer to get an extension, even though I told him that we'd have it done by Friday afternoon. The customer gave us until Tuesday to get it done.

The job ran all day long. The only times it stopped was to load paper, empty the 3 hole punch tray, and to unjam it. We delivered it to the customer at 4:05pm.

Do I know my production capabilities or what.
